Nuendo 14 World Premiere

Steinberg recently hosted an exclusive world premiere from Yellow Cab Studios in Aubervilliers, near Paris, offering an exciting first glimpse into the eagerly anticipated Nuendo 14. Timur Wenhe, Steinberg’s Head of Pro Audio, alongside Steven Guti, co-founder of Yellow Cab Studios, introduced the latest version, highlighting substantial upgrades and eagerly awaited new features.

Expanded ADR Capabilities

Nuendo 14 has significantly enhanced its Automated Dialogue Replacement (ADR) tools. Users can now display multiple overlays directly on the video player, including dialogue translations and original dialogue markers. These overlays are fully customisable, allowing for adjustments in text size, colour, background colour, and opacity, significantly enhancing the ADR workflow. Nuendo now also supports higher-resolution videos, including seamless 4K and 8K playback.

AI-powered Speech-to-Text Transcription

One of the standout additions in Nuendo 14 is an advanced AI-powered speech-to-text feature, enabling automatic transcription of recorded dialogue into ADR markers. This feature simplifies ADR preparation by creating accurate dialogue markers even without scripts, saving valuable production time and enhancing workflow efficiency.

Advanced Event Volume Curves and Editing Tools

Nuendo 14 introduces improved editing capabilities designed to speed up workflows. The new volume curve tools allow automatic visual gain adjustments directly on audio events, providing intuitive visual feedback and precise control. This includes new smart editing tools, enabling users to quickly and easily refine volume automation for dialogue, music, and effects, significantly reducing editing time.

Adaptive Background Attenuation for Automated Mixing

One of the most impressive new features in Nuendo 14 is the Adaptive Background Attenuation, which automates the mixing process to ensure dialogue clarity amidst music and sound effects. This feature dynamically balances audio levels, automatically applying precise volume adjustments based on foreground and background audio signals. It’s particularly valuable for projects with multiple language versions, simplifying the mixing process dramatically.

Game Audio Connect 3

Nuendo 14 further enhances its integration with Wwise, the leading middleware solution for game audio. Game Audio Connect version 3 introduces a revolutionary preview feature, allowing sound designers to instantly audition audio directly within games without intermediate exporting. It also simplifies asset management by automatically generating cycle markers based on imported asset lists, streamlining dialogue recording and in-game implementation processes.

Availability and Promotions

Nuendo 14 will officially be released on 19 March 2025, with a grace period that began on 19 February. Currently, Steinberg is running a promotional offer on Nuendo 13, where new purchasers will receive a complimentary upgrade to Nuendo 14 upon its release.
